What Are Some Treatment Options for Clinical Depression?

In 2021, The American Journal of Psychiatry published the largest-ever study of depression and inflammation. According to the study, people with depression had more inflammation than those without depression. It may mean that reducing inflammation (with medications or lifestyle changes) can help lessen depression symptoms.

In 2019, FDA approved a fast-acting nasal spray called Esketamine for treatment-resistant depression and depression that causes suicidal thinking. Esketamine can be abusive and serious side effects may include out-of-body experiences and hallucinations. According to a 2021 review of studies published in Frontiers in Neuroscience, side effects are usually mild to moderate and don't last long.
